This code regulates the processes that electricity customers can use to change retailers or be transferred to another retailer. It primarily applies to:
- electricity distributors
- retailers
- metering providers
- metering data providers.
Current version of the Electricity Customer Transfer Code of Practice
Pending code changes
On 1 December 2021 our codes were deemed to be codes of practice made under Part 6 of the Essential Services Commission Act 2021. We will be reviewing all codes as a result of their changed legal status prior to 31 December 2025. The Electricity Customer Transfer Code has not been reviewed at this time for that purpose. Minor changes were made on 1 March 2022 as a consequence of the remaking of the Energy Retail Code of Practice.

On 1 December 2021 the Electricity Customer Transfer Code was deemed a code of practice made under Part 6 of the Essential Services Commission Act 2001. Below are the versions of the Electricity Customer Transfer Code that were applicable prior to this change of legal status of the code. The numbering of the code versions will continue until a review is undertaken to reflect its changed legal status.
