We regulate costs related to commercial passenger vehicles, which includes unbooked ride-share services. As part of this regulatory work, we regulate maximum taxi fares. We also conduct reviews and inquiries on the commercial passenger vehicle industry that promote the long-term interests of consumers.
Commercial passenger vehicles
View maximum fares for taxis that are hailed on the street or caught from a rank within the ‘metropolitan’ and ‘urban and large regional’ zones in Victoria. Access information on non-cash payment surcharges for all commercial passenger vehicles.
We look at demand, supply, and operator costs to determine whether we raise or lower maximum fares for commercial passenger vehicles, which includes an unbooked taxi service hailed from the street or caught from a rank, or an unbooked ride-share service.
Our annual monitoring reports assessed the performance of taxis in regional and country Victoria. As of 1 July 2018, we no longer have a role in this area.
