Alinta Energy penalty notices 2020 (explicit informed consent)

Alinta Energy has paid $280,000 after we issued 14 penalty notices on 14 February 2020.

In these notices, we alleged that Alinta Energy failed to obtain explicit informed consent before transferring customers to Alinta Energy on 14 occasions between March 2018 and March 2019.

The Energy Retail Code requires energy retailers to obtain explicit informed consent before transferring a customer. Retailers must clearly, fully and adequately disclose all matters relevant to the customer's consent, including each specific purpose or use of that consent.
