Alinta Energy penalty notices 2020 (imposing conditions on assistance)

Alinta Energy has paid $1,125,000 after we issued 75 penalty notices on 18 December 2020. The amount payable for each penalty notice was $15,000.

In these notices, we alleged that Alinta Energy failed comply with their obligations on 21 January 2020 by imposing a condition on the provision of assistance that required customers to provide personal or financial information.

The Energy Retail Code states that a retailer must not impose any condition on the provision of assistance that requires the customer to provide personal or financial information.
