Changes to our mandatory safety training requirements

Our mandatory safety training units (VU21858 and VU21859) expired on 31 December 2020. As part of the reaccreditation process, the content of these two training units have been combined into one unit – VU23076.

Two training units CPCCCM2021B and RIIWHS204D have also been superseded and replaced.

We have updated our training requirements to reflect these changes whilst providing for a three month period for registered training organisations (RTOs) to transition to delivering the new VU23076 unit.

Our mandatory safety training requirement framework

Installers must complete mandatory safety training units before they can install the following activities under the VEU program:

• double glazed windows (activity 13)
• thermally efficient window products (activity 14)
• weather sealing (activity 15)
• low flow shower roses (activity 17)
• incandescent lighting (activity 21B)
• high efficiency pool pumps (activity 26).

Exemptions apply for fully qualified and licensed electricians and plumbers, and registered builders.  

Changes to our mandatory safety training unit requirements

We have made updates to our training requirements to reflect these unit changes:

We are giving registered training organisations a three month grace period to transition to delivery of the new VU23706 unit.

We have updated the Obligations and Program Guide for Accredited Persons and the following activity guides to reflect above training requirement updates:

• Space Conditioning, Shower Rose and Incandescent Lighting Activity Guide
• Appliance Activity Guide.

You should review the above guidance documents to understand the updated training requirements for new installers to the program for above VEU activities.
