‘I’ve followed cricket religiously since my childhood. When Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996, the country came to a standstill. This was during the peak of the civil war. But on that day, people from diverse backgrounds were on the streets, celebrating as a family. The victory transcended race and religion. It was a day I learnt how a sport like cricket can unite people, despite difficult circumstances.
‘I feel very lucky to have joined the water team during the 2018 water price review. We’re implementing the new water pricing framework, which focuses on making sure Victorian consumers benefit from fairer and more transparent water bills.
‘I'm also relishing the challenge of learning about a new industry. Coming from a finance and accounting background, it has been a steep learning curve to understand the various economic concepts underpinning the Victorian water industry. But most of all, I really appreciate that the work I do has a very direct and tangible impact on the long term interests of Victorian consumers.'
