Essential stories: Kate, Commissioner at the Essential Services Commission

'I love design and renovating. Personal touches are integral to making a beautiful home, and sit well against bought pieces. One of my children made a special artwork at kindergarten; I’ve had it framed, and it takes pride of place in our living room. I also framed a photo of my two children on a recent holiday, fishing reel in hand, which brings back lovely memories of a family break. When daily life becomes hectic, these items are a good reminder of the importance of family and balance.

'At the commission, I work with people who hold a wealth of knowledge and experience. We’ve achieved a lot in terms of empowering the women of the commission and embracing the diversity of our workforce.

'I feel proud to be part of a team that works on issues of importance to the wider community. The work we do affects every Victorian in some way – whether it's their water or energy supply, the rates they pay their local council, or the fare they are charged by their taxi service. Discharging that responsibility, in the long term of interests of Victorian consumers, is a challenging and very rewarding role for everyone who works here.'
