Essential stories: Merryn, local government team member

‘My dog Jake is a great friend of mine. We get along splendidly. He has trained me really well to do whatever he wants! 

'A friend and I trekked up to Seymour to get Jake in 2013. He has been a life changer. I’ve volunteered to raise money to re-home other ex-racing greyhounds and made new friends when people stop to say “g’day” to him on our walks. Jake loves his walks almost as much as sleeping and his extended family. Having him has also heightened my awareness of issues related to animal welfare.

'I've worked for the commission since 2010 in the water, energy and local government teams. In the local government team, we meet with councils and other stakeholders in Victoria to better understand the challenges these groups face.

‘When I was in the water division, I project-managed the development of a new regulatory framework for water infrastructure charges. After extensive consultation with the water and development industries, the framework was successfully implemented across Victorian water businesses in 2013. I’m proud of the positive impact my work has on essential industries.’
