Essential stories: Sam, strategic communication team member

‘My family has a cookbook that includes my mum's and nan's recipes. My mum and uncle put it together, and as well as recipes for some of the tastiest dishes I've ever eaten, they’ve included a bunch of family stories linked to many of the recipes. I'm not so good at cooking the recipes, but the cookbook is inspiration to keep trying!
‘People are passionate about their jobs at the commission, but there's a genuine appreciation that there's more to our time in the building. From lunchtime yoga and soccer sessions, and Friday drinks and snacks at the end of the day, the focus on balance makes it somewhere you want to go each day.
‘The obvious difference between the commission and other areas of government is its independence, and each employee’s ability to engage with people at all levels in the commission. In my first few months, I've had more conversations with executive level staff than I did in years at other jobs.
‘I'm immensely proud of our beautiful new website. I know how much work went into making sure it is as useful and accessible as possible, so it's fantastic to see it helping to provide better information to people who use it.’
